Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre announces youth auditions for our 2018 summer season, including roles in My Fair Lady and The Winter’s Tale as well as the opportunity to participate in The Groundlings Company. Any interested young actors between the ages 8 to 17 are encouraged to audition.
AST youth auditions will be held on Tuesday, January 9, from 4-7 pm in the Reynolds Performance Hall on the campus of UCA. No preparation is necessary, but participants will be asked to sing and move, as well as be given a scene to read. To secure a space, e-mail casting@arkshakes.com with the names and ages of those wanting to audition, and a photo and resume or list of past theatrical credits if available. We will respond with your assigned audition time and more information.
The AST summer season consists of the musical Lerner and Loewe's My Fair Lady, Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, Henry IV Part One, and a special adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing specifically for families.
AST's unique summer educational program The Groundlings Company combines learning with practice as students participate in acting classes while also rehearsing and performing alongside AST's professional acting company in The Winter’s Tale. There is a fee to participate in this program.
Rehearsals for all productions will begin May 15. Rehearsals for both My Fair Lady and The Winter’s Tale will be primarily in the evenings, with some daytime technical rehearsals prior to opening. The Winter’s Tale opens June 8 on the UCA campus and runs through the end of the festival on July 8. My Fair Lady opens June 15, with additional performances throughout the duration of the festival.
Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is the state’s only professional Shakespeare company, housed on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. Each summer, AST offers full productions of a range of Shakespeare's works, as well as other plays and musicals that help fulfill AST's mission to entertain, engage, and enrich the community.
