Summer 2020 Season Canceled

Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre is canceling our 2020 season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The University of Central Arkansas has made this difficult decision based on forecasts projecting the virus infection rates may not reach peak levels until mid-June. Therefore cancelling our summer productions is the responsible choice for the health and safety of our community. We look forward to being back and bringing you excellent live theatre in the summer of 2021.

For theatre artists this is a challenging time, as the very nature of our art requires that we connect with our community live, in a shared space, as we tell profound, important, and moving stories. I will miss that interaction and opportunity to share joy with you this summer, but it gives me strength to think about making those connections again soon. When we emerge from this crisis, the theatre will be needed more than ever as we find our way back to each other.

“Sweet are the uses of adversity” was our planned theme for this summer, and Shakespeare’s words feel particularly relevant as we navigate these uncertain times. I hope you all are able to find the sweetness in our current adverse circumstances, and I look forward to spending time with you at the theatre in the future.

Please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions or concerns, or just to chat about Shakespeare. I’d be happy to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Rebekah Scallet
